Alicia McGovern is a songstress, a traveler, a teller of tales. She loves playing with words, and playing with ideas--- ideas from observations she's made about the world and from her own experiences in it. She believes that the greatest songs have touched a universal spot where joy and pain meet and reconcile. She is a student of poets, songwriters, authors, and musicians who touch that spot in their writing. She is a student of people she has met, situations she has experienced and observed, and of the many landscapes that have shaped her.
Alicia studied at Warren Wilson College in the southern Appalachian mountains, and immersed herself in the incredible amounts of old-time and contemporary folk in the Asheville area. From there, she became a student of the world, traveling on a shoestring around the united states and abroad. Among her many stops were Hawaii, Alaska, Ireland, upstate New York, Vermont, Mexico, and Peru. Alicia's lifestyle of transience and simplicity over many years is reflected often in songs of travel and impermanance. She currently makes her home in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Alicia's music is simple, with her own blend of strumming and finger-picking her guitar. She has sparse accompaniment, because her biggest focus is on delivering her lyrics without a lot of distraction. It is this simplicity of the voice expressing a universal sentiment that Alicia focuses on her music.
